About Us

Where We Are

Saxilby with Ingleby is situated seven miles west of the city of Lincoln, UK. A modern, expanding village with an ancient heart, the village stands on the banks of the Roman Foss Canal.

The attractive canal side, refurbished in 2006 with new picnic tables and information boards, has 72 hour moorings for passing pleasure craft.

The local church of St. Botolph dates from the 11th century and is well worth a visit.

In addition to the attractions of nearby towns, the immediate area boasts many attractive villages including the deserted medieval village of Ingleby, one of England’s oldest churches at Stow , Bransby Horses , and the Elizabethan Doddington Hall .

What We Do

Saxilby’s History Group was formed in 2000 and now has over 100 members.

We hold regular meetings in the village hall where everyone is made very welcome whether a member or not. Trips are also arranged twice a year.

Talks and Guided walks for groups can also be arranged.

Our archive of photos, ‘The John Wilson Collection’, and information on Saxilby and the surrounding area has grown over the years, and when asked, we endeavor to help with research whenever possible.

We have published two books on Saxilby’s history.

The first, ‘Step Back in Time’ includes many early 20th century photos. This has proved very popular and we have sold over 1200 copies.

‘Saxilby Past and Present - A Century of Change’, features many of our ‘then and now’ photos.
